We last updated you on refuge in production during winter, spring and fall of 2022 — and we are delighted that refuge launched its World Premiere at the Festival of International Films on Art in Montreal (FIFA) on March 21, 2024 as part of the Nuit de la danse curated program.

MONTREAL-based MDFP has forged a connection to artists, arts orgs and audiences in Italy for years: award- winning films, an MDFP retrospective, musical reinterpretations, artist residencies, public presentations, community workshops, recent research and exploration abroad with partners. We continue to trailblaze in our (re)imagining, collaborating, rehearsing, co-creating with our producing partners Associazione COORPI and Associazione Augenblick on our next film LANDED, slated for production in Italy September 2024.

FRESH MOVES — Millar and Silva were invited by Kelly Hargraves, director of Dance Camera West and frequent promoter and peer of MDFP films, to create a new commissioned choreographic work through processional journeys. This new collaboration includes professional dancers from BrockusRED Dance Co (LA) and Intergenerational community members from Bakersfield, CA, and performed and filmed in April 2024.

Igniting new dialogues with our audience base in Italy and building connections within Québec are just two regions MDFP has been focusing on. In fall 2023 we participated in industry networking meetings towards exploring new film+digital market potential to increase visibility of MDFP through Artist Talks, curated screenings, and delivered workshops.
